Jide who played Jesus to be ordained
The man who played Jesus in the
Newham Millennium Passion play “A Light in the Darkness” is to return to
the Borough as a newly ordained Anglican Minister this summer.
Rowland Jide Macaulay was 34 years
old when he was cast to play Jesus and it was a life-changing experience for
him and for many locals.
Macaulay, now 47, will be ordained
into the Church of England by The Bishop of Chelmsford, The Right Reverend
Stephen Cotterell in Chelmsford Cathedral on Sunday the 30th June 2013 at 11.15am.
Macaulay will serve as Curate in the
East Ham Parish Team.
“Coming back to Newham is a
continuation of the experience from 2000 and I am really looking forward to
serving in the local community,” Jide said today.
In recent years Macaulay has focussed
on offering pastoral care to sexual minorities living on the margins of
society. He is the founder of House Of Rainbow Fellowship (www.houseofrainbow.org) and he hopes to develop his concern for all who are
marginalised for many different reasons once in post.
“My Anglican training in Cambridge
has helped me to bring together the necessary skills and to equip me for an
inclusive parish ministry and I cannot wait”.
Macaulay is the second child of
Professor Augustus Kunle Macaulay, the Principal and Founder of United Bible
University Lagos Nigeria.
Macaulay will be Officially welcomed
in the Parish of East Ham on the 7th July 2013 at 10am and
will be joined by family and friends at the special service at St Bartholomew
The Great, Barking Road.
